Two California residents were airlifted to a Salt Lake hospital Tuesday following a van accident on Clear Creek Pass southwest of Richfield.

Amado Alcarrillo, 23, and Nolverta Rodriguez, 27, were transported to LDS Hospital, where both remained in serious condition Wednesday, a hospital spokesman said. The van, driven by Carmelo Augustiniano, 25, was traveling down a steep, icy grade when it struck a semitrailer truck driven by Robert Allison, 55, Riverside, Calif., said a Utah Highway Patrol dispatcher in Richfield.

The van carried 11 passengers from Santa Ana, Calif. ranging in age from 2 to 31 years, none of whom were wearing seat belts, the dispatcher said. Allison, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
