Residents here were without power Wednesday night after a car sheered a large power pole and came to rest just outside the Stansbury Park fire station.

The driver, whose name was not released, was traveling south at a high rate of speed on U-36 about 6:10 p.m. when the car left the road, hit the power pole and flipped upside down, stopping about 15 feet from the doors of the fire station. The power pole's transformers began arcing, lighting up the nighttime sky. Utah Power worked for several hours to restore power to the area.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers arrested the driver, who was alone and not injured, for investigation of drunken driving.
