The town council has denied a zoning change for an eight-acre parcel planned for a boys ranch.

The unanimous vote on the 10- to 12-bed private facility for troubled boys came Tuesday evening, two weeks after several hundred Lynndyl residents were surveyed."Fifty-two percent responded negatively," Mayor-elect Merrill Nielson said. "Only 17 percent were in favor and 31 percent were undecided."

Opponents cited the town's lack of local law enforcement. Millard County Sheriff Ed Phillips said deputy response time from Delta, 20 miles to the south, is 20 minutes at best.
