A house at 2520 E. Creek Road that burned Thursday night caught fire and burned a second time Friday morning, bringing the combined damage total to an estimated $180,000.
Sheriff's deputies noticed the first fire about 6:30 p.m. after responding to a domestic dispute at the house Thursday. The house is occupied by renters and two people were taken into custody for questioning about the fire Thursday, said Battalion Chief Tom Bogle. Their names were not available, but they were arrested on outstanding warrants, Bogle said.Bogle said investigators believe the Thursday fire was intentionally set on the main floor of the two-story house. Damage from the Thursday fire left the house unfit for occupancy and was supposed to be vacant overnight.
Friday's fire, spotted by a neighbor about 5:15 a.m. as it burned through the roof, is considered suspicious but may have rekindled from the blaze the night before, Bogle said.
The fire on Creek Road followed a Wednesday house fire in Sandy at 2597 E. Sundance that also erupted after police had been called to the house because of a domestic dispute.
One of the homeowners called their 24-year-old son from a phone in Murray and warned him to get out of the house before calling the fire department to alert them to the blaze.
