West Jordan's Josh Downs hit a halfcourt desperation shot at the buzzer to give the Jaguars a 61-58 overtime victory over Layton Thursday night.
Bryan Alfrey led West Jordan with 20 points, but it was Downs' bucket that ended a contest which had been close from the opening tip.After taking a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter, West Jordan found itself trailing 33-30 at halftime.
The pace of the game turned slow in the second half as the Jaguars closed the gap to one at the end of the third quarter, and then outscored the Lancers (3-6) 7-6 in the fourth.
The two teams remained close throughout the overtime and appeared headed for a second until Downs' fated shot found the net.
Trevor Black was the top scorer for Layton with 18 points in a losing effort. Downs finished the game with nine points while Jeremy Hymas added 18.

At Lincoln, Neb. the Hawks stayed unbeaten (8-0) as they edged Monsignor McClancy of New York in the semifinals of the Nebraska Prep Classic. Adam Sharp led Alta with 22 points, while Taylor Wagner added 18. The Hawks will play Kearney, Neb., for the tournament championship tonight.
Brighton 61, Timpview 48
At Brighton, the Bengals broke open a close game in the fourth quarter to outdistance the Thunderbirds. Robbie Yates and David Nielsen combined for 35 points to lead Brighton (6-3) which outscored Timpview (4-6) 24-10 in the final period to earn the victory.
Taylorsville 74, Skyline 45
At Taylorsville, the Warriors exploded during the middle two quarters to take care of the Eagles. Taylorsville (5-4) outscored Skyline 48-25 during the stretch and then coasted home in the final quarter.
Viewmont 61, Socastee, S.C. 55
At Myrtle Beach, S.C., the Vikings (6-2) ended a two game losing skid despite playing without star center Alex Jensen in their final game of the Beach Ball Classic. Jeff Holt scored 18 points with Jeremy Jeppesen and Jeramie Martin adding 17 and 15 points respectively.
Provo 80, Bingham 51
At Bingham, the Bulldogs (6-4) ripped the Miners (5-2) behind 26 points by Brian Paulsen. Provo jumped out to a 24-8 lead after one quarter and never trailed thereafter.
Bountiful 70, Box Elder 55
At Bountiful, Brett Allen scored 22 points to lead the Braves (8-2) to a non-region win over the Bees (2-6).
Davis 62, Weber 51
At Davis, Kelby Miller and Kyle Olsen scored 19 and 18 points respectively to lead the Darts (5-4) to a victory over the Warriors (4-5) in a non-region game.
Judge 59, American Fork 54
At Judge, the Bulldogs received 18 points apiece from Andre Thompson and Justin Henderson in their victory over the Cavemen. Judge used a tough defense in the final quarter to overcome a two-point deficit after the third quarter. American Fork fell to 4-5 with the loss.
Lehi 68, Springville 65 OT
At Lehi, the Pioneers used a huge third quarter to defeat the Red Devils. Lehi (7-5) overcame a sluggish first half to outscore Springville (1-8) 25-15 in the third. Greg Adamson scored seven of his 14 points in the overtime for the Pioneers, who were led by Bryan Dibb's 19 points.
Mountain View 66, Mtn. Crest 44
At Mountain View, the Bruins remained unbeaten for the year (10-0) behind Nate Chappell's 18 points. The loss was Mountain Crest's first of the season (7-1).
Murray 61, Ben Lomond 50
At Murray, Josh Lambourne scored 20 points to lead the Spartans (5-2) to the non-region win over the Scots (3-5).
Roy 65, Sky View 63
At Roy, Fred Dawson's two free throws in the final minute gave the Royals a victory over the Bobcats. Roy trailed at the start of the fourth quarter but rallied back for the win. Troy Schiffman led Roy with 15 points whle Sky View's Brandon Birch tossed in 14.
Cottonwood 59, Kearns 47
At Cottonwood, Kevin Linkous scored 18 points to lead the Colts (6-2). Paul Alusa had 15 points in the losing cause for Kearns (2-6).
Cyprus 83, Granger 71
At Cyprus, the Pirates earned their first win of the preseason with a win over the Lancers. Cyprus (1-6) came out running and gunning and outscored Granger (3-6) 28-14 in the first quarter. Richard McCleve tossed in 22 points for the Pirates while teammate Chad Huntsman dished out 10 of the team's 26 assists.
Pleasant Grove 71, Orem 63
At Pleasant Grove, Justin Wilkes scored 26 points to lead the Vikings (4-7) to the win over the Tigers (7-3).
Panguitch 70, Duchesne 66
At Panguitch, the Bobcats used a balanced scoring effort to hold off the Eagles in a non-region matchup. Panguitch (7-1) received 15 points from Kenny Tebbs while Kyle Grant led all scorers with 29 points for Duchesne (5-4).
Carbon 70, Bear River 57
At Carbon, the Dinosaurs outscored the Bears 25-4 in the second quarter and cruised to an easy win over the Bears. Dolan Raby led Carbon (7-4) with 16 points while teammate Grady Buchmiller added 13.
