The Popeye videotape Shelly Dicesare bought for her 4-year-old son was a real eye-popper. And that's no spinach.

The 27-year-old registered nurse said she found 30 minutes of hard-core pornography at the end of three cartoons on the videotape titled "The Best of Popeye.""I was shocked. I am going to throw that tape away," said Dicesare, who bought the tape for a dollar at the Just 1 Dollar store in Dearborn Heights, a Detroit suburb.

Her son, Julian, had fallen asleep watching the Popeye cartoons, and Dicesare was talking to a friend on the phone when she began to hear heavy breathing. When she looked at the television, she saw a grainy picture of a man and two women having sex.

It turned out the tape was made by a Canoga Park, Calif., company called The Video Bancorp that went out of business in 1990.
