New York Yankees manager Buck Showalter was the overwhelming choice for American League manager of the year, receiving 24 of 28 first-place votes in balloting by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Showalter became the first Yankees manager to win the award, created in 1983, after leading New York to a league-best 70-43 record. He also got four second-place votes and finished with 132 points. Cleveland's Mike Hargrove, who received the other four first-place votes, was second with 86 points.
