Beleaguered LSU football coach Curley Hallman is on the way out, and the school already has started trying to line up a replacement, according to media reports.

Hallman, brought in to revive the sagging LSU football program four years ago, will be replaced for next season, a Baton Rouge television station reported Monday.WAFB-TV, citing sources "within the university," said it is not known if Hallman is being fired, if he is resigning or if a mutual decision has been reached.

"We are not commenting on the report," said Kent Lowe, an LSU spokesman.

Neither Hallman nor athletic director Joe Dean could not be reached for comment Monday after the news report.

The Times-Picayune of New Orleans reported today, quoting unnamed sources, that Baylor coach Chuck Reedy had been contacted by representatives of LSU's athletic department.

Hallman, whose Tigers are 2-7 and are coming off a humiliating 20-18 loss to Southern Mississippi, is in the fourth year of a five-year contract.

Fans have called for Hallman's dismissal, as LSU heads into its fourth losing season under Hallman and its unprecedented sixth losing season.

Saturday's loss to Southern Miss was especially poignant because Hallman came to LSU from Hattiesburg.

When Hallman arrived at LSU, hopes were high that some of Hallman's successes with other teams could be duplicated at LSU.
