Actor Christian Slater, star of the hit film, "Interview with the Vampire," was released Saturday after police held him overnight for allegedly trying to bring a gun onto a plane at Kennedy Airport in New York.

Metal detector alarms sounded as Slater prepared to board his Delta Airlines flight at 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, Port Authority officials said.A 9mm handgun was packed in Slater's luggage, Port Authority police said.

Slater, 25, was taken to Queens Central Booking and spent about three hours in a Queens jail, police said.

Slater was released early Saturday. He is charged with weapons possession and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 27, police said.
