The coach who took the Philadelphia Eagles to their only Super Bowl is considering returning to the now-struggling team.

Dick Vermeil, 58, said team owner Jeffrey Lurie piqued his interest in a job during a three-hour meeting on Friday, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported in its Sunday editions."I went into the meeting without an interest, and I came out of the meeting with an interest," said Vermeil, Eagles head coach from 1976 through 1982.

Vermeil, currently a college football analyst for ABC-TV and a spokesman for Independence Blue Cross, said he discussed the possibility of becoming the team's general manager or both general manager and coach.

He said he and Lurie agreed to think it over for a week or two before making a decision.

Lurie refused to comment on "our coaching situation" after the Eagles' 33-30 loss to Cincinnati on Saturday. He is scheduled to meet with coach Rich Kotite today.
