A 19-year-old Salt Lake City man was listed in stable condition Monday after an early morning shooting here.

Clearfield Police Chief Morton Sparks said Omar Sanchez and two 17-year-old boys, also from Salt Lake, were apparently traveling together shortly before the incident occurred. At about 4 a.m., the victim called police dispatch from a pay phone saying he had been shot three times. He was actually shot only once, Sparks said, but the bullet entered and exited his abdomen. The victim was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden.

Clearfield City Attorney Larry Waggoner said the three were apparently arguing over a purchase of cocaine.

Sparks said Sanchez was able to give police a description of the vehicle. The two juvenile suspects were apprehended near Bountiful at about 4:30 a.m. by a team of Davis County, Centerville and Utah Highway Patrol officers.

"It's too early in our investigation to tie it all down, but I think the three of them were riding together," Sparks said. "We haven't been able to find the actual crime scene at this time. It was supposedly near the freeway."
