A 15-year-old Salt Lake boy was shot in the throat early Monday in an apparent gang-related fight.

Salt Lake Police Lt. John Hodson said the victim, Mathew Palelei, was admitted in serious but stable condition to LDS Hospital. He was discharged from the hospital Monday afternoon. The incident occurred about 4 a.m. in a parking lot at 1794 W. Kimberly Circle, where the victim and some friends had a confrontation with another group, according to Hodson.

"Some rival gang members began flashing gang signs at them, I guess they flashed back, and the suspect fired a shot," Hodson said.
