Leona Rose Sherry, age 92, passed away at St. Joseph's Villa in Salt Lake City in the early morning of December 25, 1994. She was an active member of the LDS Church, attending the Provo 19th Ward.
Mom was born on April 1, 1902, to Wilburn F. Rose and Elizabeth Rigby Rose in Marion, Idaho. She married Claude James Sherry in January of 1924. He preceded her in death in April of 1957. For the past 37 years she has led a fiercely independent life, while taking trmendous pride in her role as matriarch of her exceptionally diverse family. She reveled in the growth and development of her children, their spouses, grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren. She also took great pride in her home in Provo, which she maintained until August of 1993. For her, Provo was definitely home: the place where her dearest friends were, as well as her sense of well-being.Leona is survived by her children: Barbara (Leon) Halgren; and Claude Joel (Alice) Sherry; her granddaughters, Shari Halgren (David) Quinney, Salt Lake City; Julie Halgren (Devon) Glenn, of Chatham, New Jersey; Megan Sherry, of Salt Lake City; Vicki Firmage (Bill) Bennion, of Salt Lake City; great-grandchildren, David and Lee Elizabeth Quinney, Brittany and Scott Glen, Steven, Alex and Derek Bennion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude, an adored grandson, Steven Leon Halgren, her parents and siblings.
A special thanks goes out to the staff and sisters of St. Joseph's Villa in Salt Lake for your support and help; we wish we could name all of you. Also thanks to her many friends in Provo, you are all very special people.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 29, 1994, at 11 a.m., in the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street. Friends may call at the mortuary one hour prior to services. Interment, Provo City Cemetey.
