Provo police and fire officials were forced to close a three-block portion of 500 West for more than an hour while Mountain Fuel crews capped a natural-gas leak at a condominium construction site Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 12:15 p.m., workers helping build the Parkside condominium complex, 672 N. 500 West, accidentally clipped a Mountain Fuel gas line, causing a leak, Provo police dispatchers said.Officers from the Provo police and fire departments responded to the scene within minutes. They evacuated both the construction site and the neighboring Auto-Industrial Accident Clinic, and closed 500 West between 500 North and 800 North to allow emergency vehicles to respond.
No one was hurt in the incident, and officers reopened the portion of 500 West once the line was capped and officials were satisfied that the leak had subsided.
