A man riding his bike along State Street at 3300 South suffered a direct hit in a drive-by shooting Tuesday evening but was not injured.

Was he wearing a bulletproof vest? No. Did his pocket watch miraculously keep him from harm? Nope. Was he Superman? Afraid not.Even though he was not hurt, the man did have a large red splotch on his back from where he had been hit - with a paint pellet.

"I didn't know how to categorize the incident," a police dispatcher said.

The man was southbound on his bicycle when a northbound car drove past and shot at him with a paint pellet gun. Such guns are commonly used in recreational mock battle games. The hit startled the man, causing him to fall over the handlebars of his bike.

No hospital for this victim, though he will have a slightly larger laundry bill this week.
