Ethel Roper Mathews, age 87, passed away December 25, 1994 at the Tooele Regional Medical Center, due to heart failure. She had been residing at the home of her daughter, Jeanette, in Grantsville, Utah.
She was born March 13, 1907 in Oak City, Utah to Abel M. and Rachel Rawlinson Roper. She married James Willard Mathews, October 5, 1931 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.She took great pride in her family. She was an expert in homemaking skills, gardening, quilting and many other arts and crafts. Her life was filled with kindness and service to others. She was a member of the LDS Church. She served a mission, with her husband, in the Nauvoo Illinois Mission 1974-1976. She was always active in the church assignments, serving in the Relief Society, Young Women, Primary and many years as a visiting teacher. She was an exemplary person not only in the home, but in her marriage of 63 years. As our family we extend to you our love until we meet again.
Survived by her husband, Nephi; and children, Donna (Richard) Woods, Medford, Oregon; James D. (Diane) Mathews, Bountiful, Utah; Russell (Donna) Mathews, Santa Maria, California; Jeanette (Niel) Francom, Grantsville, Utah; Lola (Mark) Koppe, Elko, Nevada; 30 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters, Parley, Henry, Lawrence, Rawlin, Mabel, Shick, Mary Jeffery, Lemira Dutson and Lucile Hales.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 30, 1994 in the Nephi LDS 7th Ward, 222 South 100 East. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North and at the church one hour prior to services. Burial in the Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.
