Donald L. Andrews, currently managing director of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Association, has been named president and chief executive officer of the Utah Symphony.

The announcement, made Thursday, climaxes a 17-month search for a new executive director following Paul R. Chummers' resignation in 1993. Earlier this year, the board approved the hiring of Nan Harman of the Rochester Philharmonic, but she subsequently declined the offer.Andrews, a native Californian, brings extensive performing and administrative experience to the two-year appointment. A 1967 Stanford University graduate, he served as president and producer of the Stanford Opera Guild, as administrator of the Aspen Choral Institute and as general manager of the Springfield, Ill., symphony orchestra.
