Utah County prosecutors have charged a former Payson PTA official with multiple counts of forgery and theft after more than $7,000 collected from local fund-raising events turned up missing.
Karlee Carlisle, 30, was charged in 4th District Court with 26 counts of forgery and six counts of theft.Carlisle was secretary-treasurer of Wilson Elementary School's PTA from June 1993 to June 1994. During that period, investigators say she purchased items for personal use with PTA funds.
Investigators learned of Carlisle's alleged misuse of funds when current PTA officers expressed concern over a shortage of funds. Several of the school's PTA checks bounced, and the fund is currently operating in the red. PTA officials say Carlisle was unresponsive to requests to produce financial records.
Carlisle is scheduled to appear in 4th Circuit Court Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. Prosecutors say they hope to recover the missing funds and return the money to the school's PTA.
