The National Park Service will start accepting group campsite reservations for Arches and Canyonlands national parks beginning Tuesday, Jan. 3, for the 1995 season, according to Superintendent Walt Dabney.

A new feature for 1995 is that reservations can be made by placing a single phone call for sites in either park. The new phone number is 1-801-259-4351. The office will be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon, and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.Arches and Canyonlands provide a total of five group campsites available to groups of 11 or more people. At Arches the sites are within Devils Garden Campground. At Canyonlands the sites are in the Needles District. Reservations for these sites may be made by phone or mail.

In order to recover some of the costs associated with the reservation system, the park service will charge a $10 non-refundable fee for each reservation. Visa or MasterCard will be accepted for phone requests.

The nightly group camping fee will remain the same for 1995. In Arches, the rate is $3 per person per night; in Canyonlands, $2 per person per night. In addition, entrance fees will be collected year-round in Arches and mid-March through late October in Canyonlands.
