Because he wasn't getting enough return on his investment, Vern Farr, owner of Farr's Jewelry, has decided to close his Salt Lake store and sell the building.
Farr's Jewelry has been a longtime fixture in downtown Salt Lake City, first located at 131 E. 100 South, and then at 260 S. Main since 1982, when he purchased the 3,800-square-foot building. He will close the store in mid-January, but meanwhile, he is offering everything in the store at 20-70 percent discounts. Everything in his store not sold when it is closed will be sent to his stores in Ogden and Idaho Falls. He has operated in Ogden for 38 years and Idaho Falls for 30 years.
One of his five employees already has another job lined up, and the other employees are part-timers. Farr's Jewelry features jewelry, gifts, electronics and collectible items.
