Margaret Nina Swapp Smirl, 85, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 1994.

She was born November 1, 1909 in Kanab, Utah to James William and Harriet Johnson Swapp. She married William J. (Bill) Smirl on September 9, 1933, in Ogden, Utah. They were later sealed in the St. George Temple. He died on January 30, 1970.Nina was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She lived all her life in Kanab. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and brothers and sisters were the most important things in her life and she never missed a family member's birthday. She had a quick wit and a remarkable memory.

She is survived by three daughters, Harriet Whiting, Grand Junction, Colorado; Joanna Betenson, Bountiful, Utah; and Kathleen Holland, Kanab; twelve grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, Cliff Swapp, Fredonia; Neaf Swapp, Page and Leon Swapp, Kanab; sisters, Corris Morgan and Ella Willis, both of Kanab. Nina was preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law, Donald Whiting; granddaughter, April Nicol; brothers, Mark Swapp, Eldred Swapp, Cloyd Swapp; sister, Viola Watson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 31 at 2 p.m. in the Kanab Stake Center. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Mosdell Mortuary and at the church from 12:45-1:45 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be in the Kanab City Cemetery.
