Metasys Inc., a company producing dental amalgam separators and providing wet amalgam sludge recycling, has opened a 4,000 square-foot facility at 2675 Industrial Drive.
Metasys has $27 million in annual sales, and its 100 employees work in Austria, Germany, Canada, Australia and Japan.Ogden Mayor Glenn Mecham said, "We are gratified to have a quality biotechnology company in Ogden. We think it is especially significant that this is an international company."
In 1983, Bruno Pregenzer and Werner Trawoger believed the metal components of amalgam fillings could be recycled, thereby reducing the danger of mercury waste. Later, Pregenzer and Christian Gruber built the world's only amalgam recycling plant, which recylces the sludge back to the original metals without mercury vapor pollution from drying.
