The U.S. population has climbed to 261.7 million, the Census Bureau says.

The annual year-end estimate shows growth of 2.5 million people in 1994 for a total of 261,653,497, the Census Bureau said Thursday.The growth includes a natural increase of 1.7 million - 4 million births minus 2.3 million deaths - plus 733,000 in immigration and the return to the United States of 84,000 Americans, including armed forces, from abroad.
