The Getty Art History Information Program has introduced a new compact disc documenting the history of collecting.
The disc, "Documents for the History of Collecting," brings together information compiled abroad, documenting the provenance of paintings and other works of art over the past 400 years.Scholars, museum curators and collectors can access and retrieve information from European archives, sales catalogs and museum records by using the CD-ROM. Most of the information now available on the disc has never been published.
The CD is helpful for those interested in the history of collecting and the art market. The "History of Collecting" CD brings together inventories of collections gathered from public and private archives in Italy, Spain and the Netherlands; catalogs of British sales of paintings from 1801-1825; and an inventory of paintings found in many American, British and Irish museums.
The Getty Art History Information Program is an operating program of the J. Paul Getty Trust.
