Canyonlands Field Institute offers courses for anyone interested in meeting first aid requirements and expanding his/her knowledge and skills as an outdoor educator, guide or wilderness/river ranger on the Colorado Plateau. The following courses meet requirements for Utah guide licensing:- Wilderness first responder - Jan. 21-29. Emphasizes backcountry care in a prolonged transport context. The fee is $400 ($385 for CFI members).
- American Red Cross emergency response - Feb. 20-25, March 20-25, April 21-26. Designed for any professional who may be called upon to give first aid in the line of duty. The fee is $195 ($180 for CFI members). A $75 deposit is required.
- Level I interpretive skills - April 8, 9, and May 13, 14. For first-year guides, this is an introduction to P plateau natural and cultural history, geologic principles and basic backcountry interpretive tech-niques. Fee is $50 ($45 for CFI members). A $15 deposit is required.
- Level I river skills - April 14-16 and May 19-21. For novice river guides. Fee is $100 ($90 for CFI members). Deposit is $30.
- Level II river skills - May 6, 7. For trip leaders and experienced guides. Fee is $50 ($45 for CFI members). Deposit is $15.
