Alan Sears Hintze, 74, passed away October 31, 1995 in the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, Rockville, Maryland.

Born November 20, 1920 in Holladay, to Henry H. Hintze and Ethel Irene Sears Hintze. Alan spent his early years in Utah, but his later life in Hamilton and Cleveland, Ohio and Germantown, Maryland. He married Viola Faye Blevens on February 14, 1943 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in May, 1945.He joined the Navy during World War II, and spent most of his time teaching on the East Coast. He attended the University of Utah and graduated in 1950 as an Electrical Engineer. In July 1961, he joined the Atomic Energy Commission, where he was instrumental in helping to develop a successful prototype nuclear rocket engine. In 1972, he was transferred to Washington D.C., working on the nuclear power plant safety program.

Alan was a member of the LDS Church, and served faithfully in many capacities. He was bishop of the Hamilton, Ohio Ward, High Councilor in the Cleveland Stake and member of the bishopric in the newly formed Gaithersburg Ward. When the Washington D.C. Temple was dedicated in 1974, he and his wife, Viola, were called to be ordinance workers. He held that calling until the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife, Viola, Germantown, Maryland; sons, Jan B. (Wendy), St. Mary's, Penn.; Frank B. (Marla) West Jordan; daughters, Helen (David) Harlow, Baltimore, Maryland; Olia (Bill) Shearer, Chino Valley, Ariz.; brothers, Wayne S. (Dorothy), Henry S. (Thelma), Salt Lake; Lyle S. (Nadine), Bountiful; Ray S. (Gloria), Farmington; sisters, Jane (William O.) Tucker, Centerville; Janis (Don) Bishop, Highland. He will also be missed by 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and hundreds of loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Harold, Eugene, Keith, and Wendell.

Funeral Saturday, November 4th, 10 a.m., at the Seneca Stake Center, and Monday, November 4, 10 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road. Viewing Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Interment at Holladay Memorial Park, 4670 So. Highland Dr. Holladay, Utah.
