Jeanene Watkins Scott, wife of Elder Richard G. Scott of the LDS Church's Quorum of the Twelve and daughter of former U.S. Sen. Arthur V. Watkins and Andrea Rich Watkins, died of lymphoma May 15, 1995, at her home in Salt Lake City. She was 65.

Sister Scott, who had been ill for about 21/2 years, spent Mother's Day at home with her family.She was born June 30, 1929, in Orem. She was reared there and moved to Washington, D.C., as a teenager when her father was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1946.

Her father served two terms in the Senate. He was a member of the Indian Claims Commission and served on many other governmental bodies.

Sister Scott graduated from Orem High School, attended Brigham Young University and graduated from George Washington University with a degree in sociology.

Elder and Sister Scott were married July 16, 1953, in the Manti Temple.

While her husband-to-be was serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Uruguay, she served a mission in the Northwestern States. She also served with Elder Scott as he presided over the Argentina North Mission with headquarters in Cordoba.

In 1977 Elder Scott was called as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy. He and Sister Scott were sent by the church to Mexico City for three years where he served as an area executive administrator.

They are parents of seven children, five of whom are living. They are Mary Lee Scott, Orem; Kenneth L. Scott, Mesa, Ariz.; Mrs. Monte (Linda) Mickle, Houston, Texas; David M. Scott, Salt Lake City; and Michael W. Scott, Provo. They have six grandchildren.

Sister Scott traveled throughout the world with her husband. She did extensive family history work, was a spiritual living teacher in the Relief Society and had served in other church organizations.

"Mother had many friends and others that she cared deeply about. Her main goal was to serve the Lord, her husband, children and grandchildren," Linda Mickle said Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held Friday at noon in the Mt. Olympus North Stake Center, 3930 E. 4155 South. Friends may call Thursday at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park on Highland Drive.
