The final scoring drive started at the 3:42 mark and covered 61 yards in seven plays.SUU went up 7-6 late in the second quarter on a 10-yard Rick Robins to Robbie Gunter touchdown pass. The score capped an 11-play, 88-yard drive. Defense took over for both teams from there and the only real threat in the rest of the game was Angelo's decisive score.
Tailback Jurome Lee led the Angelo State attack with 89 rushing yards and a highlight-film long of 39 yards. Angelo's Jason Johns was the Rams' defensive standout with 18 tackles.
"It was really frustrating tonight. I'm proud of how hard the kids played. Defensively we were pretty solid, but we've got some work to do in the secondary.," said SUU coach Jack Bishop.
"Offensively, I felt really good at times. We moved the ball tonight, but we just couldn't finish the drives. We weren't very good on third downs."
