Walter Christiansen, age 82, passed away August 3, 1996 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born in Springfield, Idaho on January 22, 1914, the fourth child in a family of nine children, to Simon Martin and Ingrid Paulsen Christiansen. He married Annie Watson, September 20, 1935 in Salt Lake City, later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Walt was a co-founder of Christiansen Brothers Construction in 1940. He was a member the Associated General Contractors and served in many positions and committees over the years.
He has been a registered Boy Scout for over 50 years, serving in local council activities, as area president for three years and currently as board member for the Western Region. He received both the Silver Beaver Award and Silver Antelope Award along with many other Scouting awards.
Member of the Salt Lake Kiwanis where he was nominated for Kiwanian of the Year, 1993-1994, and served as chairman of the Neighborhood House service project. Walt and Annie enjoyed working as volunteers at the LDS Hospital where Annie has 10,000 hours and Walt had over 2,500 hours.
Active in the LDS Church and served as Bishop of the Nibley Park Ward, 1954-1958.
Survived by his wife, Annie. In Walt's words, "Annie is the best partner a man could ever have"; son, Jay (Anna Lee), Salt Lake City; two daughters, Nancy Graham (George); and Karen Anderson (Robert), both of Seattle, Washington; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Rolf; Harold; Wally; and Simon; two sisters, Signa Turner; and Ester Burt.
Funeral services, Tuesday, August 6, at 12 noon, Harvard Ward, 1021 South 200 East. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Monday evening 6-8 p.m. and at the ward on Tuesday, 11-11:45 a.m. Interment in the Holladay Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions in his name to the Neighborhood House, 1050 West 500 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84104. The family would like to thank the staff of LDS Hospital for their loving care and kindness.
