Directions: Located 2 miles north of the town of Newton and 2 miles southwest of Clarkston. Take highway 91 towards Logan, then take turnoff on state road 30 near Wellsville.

Description: This is a small, narrow reservoir. It is about one mile long and about 300 surface acres. Sagebrush around the shoreline as well as patches of cottonwood trees. Good access to this reservoir in the winter.Fish: Bluegill, Perch, Rainbow, Tiger Musky, Crappie and Largemouth Bass.

What Works: For perch use a tear drop or "Glow-In-The-Dark" ice fly tipped with perch meat or perch eye below a flasher. Use the same setup for crappie except us a wax worm or meal worm fished near the bottom. For trout use a small tear drop or ice fly baited with a salmon egg or wax worm. Bass will go for same setup as perch and crappie.

Details: This is a fairly shallow reservoir so fishermen will find fish most anywhere. Perch and bluegill can be found in deeper areas around the dam. Rainbow tend to be suspended under the ice and can be found in different areas. Bass are usually not active in winter so harder to catch. Best fishing is around the dam and in some of the bays. Also look for bass and bluegill around weed beds and off shallow points. Fish for perch and crappie off the bottom. Most of the fishing is done around launch ramp and dam.

Notes: Reservoir is about a two-hour drive from Salt Lake City, so nice place to go for a day of fishing. Noted for giving up some large trout. Roads kept open in the winter to access is good. For size restrictions and limit on bass check proclamation. Close to Logan.

Bear Lake

Good fishing for cutthroat and whitefish on lures from shore and boats. The lake is ice free but shoreline ice may be forming around the edges and marinas. Bear Lake is not expected to freeze until January. Cisco run will start mid- to lake-January.
