More than 4,200 people turned out Sunday for LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley's first visit here.
In a speech at the Spring Creek High School gym, President Hinckley said he was pleased with church membership in Elko and predicted there would be an LDS temple in the town someday. He and Elder Jeffrey Holland spoke to members of four northeast Nevada stakes of the church.
Dr. Kurt Alleman, an Elko optometrist and stake president, said people had to be turned away from the gym because there wasn't enough room inside during the two-hour stake conference.
