The Private Eye Weekly, a Salt Lake City alternative newspaper, has changed its name after 13 years.

The weekly newspaper has taken the name Salt Lake City Weekly. Owner and publisher John Saltas changed the name because many people misunderstood the old one, he said."Our former name was a dumb one," Saltas added. "We've lost track of the number of phone calls we've gotten from distraught spouses who were wondering if we could track down their mate."

Saltas started the publication in 1984 on a monthly basis. He was its only employee and produced it out of the basement of his home.

The paper has grown to be a weekly publication with a circulation of 200,000 a month and 20 employees. It moved from Midvale to downtown Salt Lake City, 60 W. 400 South.

The publication has won 30 professional journalism awards since 1993, Saltas added.
