Naomi Andersen Newell, 95, of Richfield, Utah, died January 10, 1998, in Salt Lake City.
She was born on June 25, 1903, in Central, Utah, to Soren and Christine M. Sorensen Andersen. She married Rulon Day Newell, December 1926 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died December 9, 1978.A graduate of Brigham Young University, she received her degree in elementary education. She also attended a summer session at the University of California at Berkeley. Active in church and community affairs, Naomi Newell was a member of the Community Betterment Committee and an officer in the Parent-Teacher Assn. She also was a Daughter of the Utah Pioneers and held office in this organization. She taught classes in Primary, Sunday School, Mutual and Relief Society. In South Sevier she was a member of YWMIA Stake Board, Sunday School Stake Board and Relief Society Stake Board. She taught in Relief Society for 10 years. She and her husband were temple workers in the Manti Temple for several years.
She taught school for 37 years, 22 years in Elsinore, two years as principal of Central School, and 13 years in Richfield. In South Sevier she served two years as a seminary teacher.
She is survived by her sons, Rulon Kay (Rosalie) Newell, Salt Lake City, Utah; and Dix A. (Sara) Newell, Walnut Creek, California; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Luzon Peterson, Richfield, Utah; Talmage Andersen, Central, Utah.
Naomi was preceded in death by her husband Rulon, a son Gregg, her parents, five sisters, and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 14, 1998, at 1 p.m. in the Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary Chapel, 50 South 100 West, where friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery. Funeral directors, Neal S.
