Willard MacFarlane Milne, age 84, died Sunday, February 8, 1998 in St. George, Utah.
He was born November 26, 1913 in St. George to Joseph Jarvis and Hepziabah MacFarlane Milne. He married Ruth Cottam, November 8, 1935 in the St. George LDS Temple. A lifetime resident of St. George, Utah, Mr. Milne graduated from Dixie High School and Dixie College. A charter member of the St. George Volunteer Fire Department since 1936, he was also a member and past president of the St. George Rotary Club. He was co-owner of Milne Truck Lines, Inc. and St. George Terminal Manager.His loves included his wife of 62 years, his five children and 16 grandchildren. He loved serving in the LDS Church, working with young men and young women. He started the St. George East Stake Girls Camp. Mr. Milne served in various positions within the LDS Church, including callings as counselor in Bishopric, bishop, high counselor and first counselor in Stake Presidency. He considered home teaching as his greatest calling in the church, which he cherished and where he served diligently. He also loved fishing, hunting, horseback riding, gardening, farming and spending time at his summer home in Pine Valley. His Garden of Eden was St. George.
Surviving family include his wife, Ruth of St. George, UT; one son and four daughters: Garth LeRoy and Kay Milne of South Barrington, IL; Michael and Nancy Easton of Sandy, UT; Bruce and Marsha Smith of Gilbert, AZ; Ken and Susan Schmutz of Las Vegas, NV; Craig and Judy Ann Loe of St. George, UT; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, Arvel Milne, Joe Milne and Ruth Roundy, all of St. George, Utah.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February, 11, 1998 at 11 a.m. at the St. George LDS East Stake Center, 449 South 300 East, St. George, Utah. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 300 West St. George Blvd. and on Wednesday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the St. George East Stake Center prior to services. Interment in the St. George City Cemetery under the direction of the Metcalf Mortuary, 673-4221.
