Francis "Frank" Edward Delvie died April 22, 1998 at a local care center at age 99.
He was born October 9, 1898 in Chicago, IL to Frank E. Delvie and Maude East. He married Ann Marie Wagner on March 31, 1925 in Sandpoint, Idaho. She died November 18, 1993 after 68 years of being happily married. Prior to and during the Great Depression, Frank delivered milk from his horse drawn carriage for the Carnation Dairy in Chicago, IL. He later moved to Seattle, WA, where he worked as a organizer for the early labor movement. He moved to Salt Lake in 1943 and started the first plastics company in Utah, Plastic Products Company in 1945. He served as president of Plastic Products for many years and later founded Delvie's Plastics, Inc. with his son, William. He worked with william for several years until his eventual retirement in 1963.Frank served as Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club, Lodge 85 in 1954. In his later years, Frank was a resident of Chateau Brickyard and loved calling Bingo on Saturday nights and playing cards with his many friends. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially playing chess and checkers. He was a longtime loyal and generous contributor to the Democratic Party. He was a member of St. Ann's Parish. His enthusiasm for life was evidenced in his love for travel. He had traveled all over the world and had just returned from a cruise through the Panama Canal only two months prior to his death.
Frank had a special bond with his son, William. Together, they started and ran many successful businesses. They traveled all parts of the world and they enjoyed each others company.
Frank was a kind, loving and generous person. He will be remembered for his wit and humor and he will be greatly missed by his family and everyone that knew him. Special thanks to the Wasatch Valley Rehabilitation personnel for the love and care they extended Frank.
Frank is survived by his son, William and daughter-in-law, Dawn; grandchildren, John (Shauna) Delvie and Cheryl (Jim) Jones and five great-grandchildren, Kristen, Michael, Lisa, Ryan and Kevin.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 450 East 2100 South. A Vigil Service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. also at the church, where friends may call from 5-6 p.m. Committal: Salt Lake Memorial Mausoleum, 1001 East Eleventh Avenue. Funeral directors: Neil O'Donnell and Sons.
