The Salt Lake County Commission Wednesday officially put the process in motion to put a proposed change of county government plan on November's ballot.
A committee appointed by the commission has recommended replacing the current three-commissioner form with a nine-member council and one executive. There will be no public hearings on the proposed plan, and at the end of the summer the commission will vote on whether to put the plan on the ballot, put it on the ballot in modified form or not put it on the ballot."We need to understand that this starts the process and it is irrevocable," said Chairman Brent Overson. "We will have to vote - we can vote not to put it on the ballot, but we can't rescind our vote."
The public hearings, all at 7 p.m., will be on July 8 at the West Jordan City Hall, July 29 at the West Valley City Hall and Aug. 5 at the Salt Lake County Government Center.
Copies of the plan are available for public inspection at the county clerk's office, 2001 S. State, suite S2200.
