The prosecution hit a roadblock in the Ennis Cosby murder case, with one witness refusing to testify and another saying he is risking death by telling of Mikail Markhasev's purported admission that he killed Bill Cosby's son.
Christopher So, whose effort to collect a $100,000 reward from a tabloid led to Markhasev's arrest, was placed in police custody overnight to ensure he returned Friday for cross-examination."I'm putting my life in jeopardy," So told the judge Thursday. "If I'm ever incarcerated again, I may as well kiss my life goodbye."
He has already told jurors that an agitated Markhasev admitted: "I shot a nigger.. . . It's all over the news. It's big." And he quoted another companion, Michael Chang, as asking in amazement, "You mean Cosby?"
Ennis Cosby, 27, was shot to death as he changed a flat tire along a dark road early on Jan. 16, 1997. Markhasev, a 19-year-old Ukrainian immigrant, is charged with robbery and murder.
