ERICKSON TO OREGON STATE: Dennis Erickson, after four years of mediocrity in the NFL, is going back to college football, the game that brought him his greatest success. And Oregon State hopes some of it will rub off.
Erickson, fired last month as coach of the Seattle Seahawks, was to be named Oregon State's new coach at a news conference Tuesday, a source told The Associated Press on Monday. He replaces Mike Riley, who last week was named the new coach of the San Diego Chargers.WOLFORD TO RETIRE: Will Wolford, the Pittsburgh Steelers tackle who played much of last season with a torn chest muscle, is retiring after 13 years in the NFL.
Wolford does not plan to send official notice to the NFL so the Steelers can list him as one of five players the team must make available to the Cleveland Browns in next month's expansion draft.
