Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and sister-in-law passed away August 2, 1999 in Sandy, Utah. She left this life gently and peacefully in her sleep.
Born the middle child out of seven children on September 4, 1916 in Sterling, Utah, to William Hans and Mary Jensen Denison. She was raised in Sterling, Utah and remained there until she married Homer C. Whitlock on May 19, 1938 in the Manti LDS Temple.Ruby was always an active member of the LDS Church filling many Stake and Ward positions in the Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women's organizations. She was known for her genealogy work and many years working with the name extraction program. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Mineralogical Society of Utah, and she was a lifetime member of the Wasatch Gem Society donating many hours of time and her crafts to gem shows.
Ruby had an abiding love for her family, and for her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was instrumental in completing many handmade quilts, sweaters, and other articles, which will be treasured by those who benefited from her skills. She often donated her time, effort and knowledge to her neighbors and community members. She and her husband served an LDS mission to Nauvoo, Il., and they served another mission in the Genealogical Research Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. They also served in the Jordan River Temple doing sealing work for many years.
She was preceded in death by her firstborn child, her parents, four brothers, her mother and father-in-law, her brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law. After 61 years of wedded bliss, she is survived by her husband, Homer, of Sandy; three sons and three daughters, Homer E. (Adele), Casper, WY; Anna M., Sandy; Howard, Magna; Betty (Tom) Ginter, Bluffdale; Robert (Pam), Riverton; Shanna (Lorenzo) Blackburn, Sandy. Also surviving are 55 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Mary Curtis, Aurora, UT; one brother, Ernest S. (Ola) Denison, San Angelo, TX; three sisters-in-law, Unice McCurdy, Anchorage, Alaska; Mae Denison, Kearns, UT; Theda Denison, Manti, UT.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 6, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Crescent 19th Ward, 1035 East 10600 South, Sandy, UT. Friends may call at the Ward on Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. or Friday, 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery/Mortuary, 10600 South 1700 East.
