BOUNTIFUL — A woman is dead after a bizarre accident outside an ATM machine.

Killed was:

Rebecca Lutz, 40, Farmington.

Lutz had opened her van door to use the drive-through ATM at First Security Bank, 280 W. 1500 South just after 3 p.m. Wednesday. After retrieving her money from the machine, Lutz's car lunged forward, hitting a concrete barrier and pinning her between her door and the car's frame, said Bountiful police spokesman Ed Biehler.

A man mowing a nearby lawn noticed Lutz and went to help her. When paramedics arrived, the back end of Lutz's van had to be lifted out from the concrete barrier so rescue workers could work on her. Lutz was taken by medical helicopter to LDS Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Police believe Lutz's foot came off the brake or she accidentally hit the gas pedal, sending the car forward, Biehler said.
