The Deseret News' Feb. 6 article on retiring Rep. Jordan Tanner reports some legislator's final kick in the pants as he leaves the Legislature. But as you pointed out, his retirement does not go unnoticed by people whose respect he enjoys. He was truly the people's advocate in his efforts to reduce corruption in our political system.
The people are tired of politicians who exploit their positions by ignoring or refusing to consider conflict of interest laws, who vote their own interests rather than the people's, and who take the people's rights unto themselves as they reduce voters' ability to give input where needed. The people lose when Jordan Tanner doesn't choose to seek re-election to the Legislature. Some legislators having expressed their "ire" at his reform efforts, according to your article, will now be free to pursue their own desires rather than the will of the people. The specter of unethical acts reported now and then are an embarrassment to the good citizens of this wonderful state.
The people of Utah will miss Jordan Tanner's voice on their behalf.
