"Dain and Peggy" on KSFI (alias "FM-100") and "The Freak Show" on KURR ("Rock 99") are the big news in morning radio this month with the latest Arbitron rating estimates.
Dain Craig and Peggy Ijams broke the two-year lock KSL had on No. 1 in the age 12-plus general audience with Grant Nielsen and Amanda Dickson. After being second most of the past 24 months, the KSFI personalities somehow hit No. 1 again. However, for the other two main age groups -- 18-34 and 24-54 -- Mick Martin and Allen Handy of KURR managed to leap into first place. That's quite an improvement since "Rock 99" was sixth and fifth, respectively, in those two categories three months ago.
Another big gain was by Scott Simon and Erin Brady on KBEE (FM-98.7), who did not crack the last top five book but were tied for second in the age 18-34 group with a 6.9 percent audience share. (That compares to their 4.4 share last book.) "Simon and Brady" also doubled their share among women, ages 25-54, by having a first-place, 15.6 percent share.
On the opposite end, and taking a big drop, was The Jimmy Chunga Show with Mr. West. This KENZ morning program went from first place and a 9.7 percent audience share in the age 18-34 category, to a seventh-place 6.2 percent performance this time around.

MORE ON TRUMPER STATION SALE -- KISN is being sold to Clear Channel Communications by Trumper Communications. KOSY, KCPX and KRAR are also a part of the deal, but Clear Channel can only keep one station because of FCC ownership rules, and that will be FM-97. Mercury Brodacasting will end up with the other three stations.
Unoffical selling price by Trumper for the four stations is reported at $63 million.
Clear Channel takes control on June 1, and all KISN DJs and staff will eventually move to West Valley offices. However, formats and DJs are expected to remain the same. Possible changes at the other three stations are unknown at this point.
KBYU (FM-89.1) will present "Memorial Day in Poetry and Song," Sunday, May 28, and Monday, May 29, at 2 p.m. daily,
The program features selections read by poet and BYU professor Leslie Norris and music by the BYU School of Music.
