Wizards 2, Mutiny 1
TAMPA, Fla. — Peter Vermes and Miklos Molnar scored second-half goals as the Kansas City Wizards beat Tampa Bay 2-1 on Saturday to remain Major League Soccer's only undefeated team.
Kansas City's Tony Meola had his MLS-record scoreless streak stopped at 681 minutes when Mamadou Diallo scored in the 66th minute. Still the goalkeeper robbed the Tampa Bay forward two other times as the Wizards improved to 10-0-2.
The 12-game unbeaten streak is tied for the second longest in league history. Los Angeles had a 15-game streak in 1998 and a 12-game run in 1996.
METROSTARS 4, FIRE 1: At East Rutherford, N.J., Steve Jolley and Clint Mathis scored goals a minute apart late in the first half as the New York-New Jersey MetroStars beat the Chicago Fire. A crowd of 41,609 attended the game at the Meadowlands, the largest for an MLS game this season.
CREW 4, FUSION 2: At Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Brian McBride and Dante Washington each scored two goals as the Columbus Crew beat the Miami Fusion.
The loss was Miami's first under new head coach Ray Hudson, who guided the Fusion to three straight victories after taking over the team on May 8.
UNITED 3, BURN 2: At Washington, Raul Diaz Arce returned to a hero's welcome as D.C. United ended a record-tying four-game losing streak.
Dallas lost its third straight game when defender Brandon Pollard's own goal in the 74th minute broke a 2-2 tie.
