James Rupert Soderberg, age 72, passed away peacefully on Dec. 11, 2001 in Salt Lake City. He fought a valiant battle with Alzheimer's these past few years.

He was born Nov. 27, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Rupert and Mary Evans Soderberg. He married Gloria Duffin Neeley on Sept. 2, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He served an LDS mission in Brazil and was a faithful member of the LDS church throughout his life, serving in many different capacities.

He received his Architectural degree from the U of U and upon graduation was called into the Army for two years and spent most of that time at the National Security Agency at Ft. Meade, Maryland which was rather a pleasant experience.

At the time of his discharge, he and his family returned to Salt Lake to resume his love of Architecture. After working for a local Architectural firm, he moved into a position with the Building Board for the State of Utah. He served there for 29 years and worked with most College Campuses throughout the state.

He thoroughly enjoyed his job for most of that time.

He loved and enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. He was really sports oriented and especially enjoyed "his beloved Utes". It was said once that he got into the various games more than the players themselves. Another passion of his has been his grandchildren. He dearly loved each and every one of them and had a ball playing with them and attending their little league games and in one case following the tennis tournaments of our grandson. Jim thoroughly enjoyed playing golf with his long time friend. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, and four daughters: Judy Williams (Bart) Ogden, Lynne Morton (John) Pennsylvania, Peggy Moss (Duane) Salt Lake City, Debbie Clark (Bret) Salt Lake City and 15 grandchildren. One brother Dr. Thomas E. Soderberg (Taunnie), and one sister Jean Simpson (Peter).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2001, 1 p.m. at the East Millcreek 15th Ward Chapel, 3750 S. Hillside Lane (2500 E.). Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Dr., and on Saturday from 11:45-12:45 p.m. prior to the services. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Silverado Care Center for their loving care of our husband and father.
