Salt Lake-based SOS Staffing Services on Thursday reported a net loss of $834,000, or 7 cents per share, during the quarter ended April 1. That compares with a net loss of $281,000, or 2 cents per share, for the same period a year ago.

The net loss includes $526,000 from discontinued operations as a result of the sale in December of the consulting division of Inteliant Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of the company.

Service revenues during the quarter were hurt by the general economic slowdown, the company said. They totaled $68.7 million, compared with $80.3 million in the prior-year period.
