Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, companion, and great-grandma "White Hair", Eli-zabeth "Betty" Moodie Metcalf, 73, of Salt Lake City, passed a-way unexpectedly July 12, 2001, after a short illness.
She was born Jan 25, 1928 in Melbourne, Aus-tralia to Clarence E. and Eileen Papley Moodie. She met and married her beloved husband, John S. Metcalf, Oct 1, 1943, during World War II. Betty came to the United States after the war where she and John continued their romance for over 50 years. Betty and John were very proud of their legacy which includes her five loving children, Michael (David Desler) Metcalf, San Francisco, CA, Barbara (Ed) Sund, Kathryn Metcalf, both of Salt Lake City, Vickie (Ron) Wilde, Boise, ID, Stephen (Tiffany) Metcalf, Salt Lake City; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, whom she treasured; sister, Maureen (Sid) Cromie; and brother, Desmond (Beverly) Moo-die, both of Australia. Betty was also fortunate to have the dear friendship of her companion, John Kurtyka, who brought her much happiness and joy, and whom she cared for deeply. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Metcalf; sisters, Eileen, Patricia, and brother, Mic.
Betty was a member of St. Ambrose Parish for many years where she sang with the choir. She was also a member of the 49ers, where she enjoyed the association with her many friends.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Tues. 10:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1975 S. 2300 E. A vigil service will be Mon. 7:30 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 E. 100 S, where friends may call 6-7:30 p.m. Private family committal: Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
