Obituary: Mary "Adele" Squires Davis

Mary "Adele" Squires Davis 1918 ~ 2006 IVINS, UT- Mary Adele Squires Davis died Friday, September 29, 2006, at her home in Ivins, UT, in the arms of her loving husband. She was preceded in death by her father Leslie "Les" Squires, mother Chloe Young Squires, and her brother Gordon Squires. "Adele" was born August 13, 1918, in Salt Lake City, UT, growing up on Harvard Avenue. She graduated from East High School and she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Utah in 1941 and was a lifelong member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Adele married Newell P. Davis in November of 1941 and after two years in San Diego and Santa Ana as a Marine Corps wife, during World War II, she and her husband moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1947, where together they owned and operated a travel agency for some 25 years; here she realized an experience of world wide travel. A supportive wife and superb homemaker, she was loved and respected by a wonderful group of friends and neighbors in Seattle, Washington. In addition, she was a contributing member of the Children's Orthopedic Hospital Guild. Upon their retirement, they moved to Ivins, UT where she reunited with friends from her early days in Salt Lake City, and made many wonderful new friends in the beautiful country surroundings of Padre Lakes. Adele is survived by her husband of 64 years, Newell Davis of Heber, UT; their sons, Randall Kent Davis of Gardenville, NV; and Richard Newell Davis of Minden, NV; and granddaughters, Heather Nicole Davis of South Lake Tahoe, CA; and Janel Adena Davis of Reno, NV. She will be missed by all who knew her, for she has an endearing soul and she will be remembered by those who loved her. Memorial services will be held Monday, October 9, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, UT. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
