A Murray doctor facing federal charges connected to writing prescriptions for painkillers may strike a plea deal with government prosecutors.
Court records show that Dr. Warren Stack is scheduled for a change-of-plea hearing on Friday. He currently is facing an 18-count indictment accusing him of health-care fraud, distribution of a controlled substance and conspiracy.
Federal prosecutors claimed Stack would see as many as 80 patients a day to prescribe narcotic painkillers. Nicknamed the "Candy Man," investigators said he fed people's addictions and has been implicated in several deaths, though never charged.
