SALT LAKE CITY — Management of The Gateway has had the SkyBox Sports Grille evicted after winning a $484,886 judgment against the sports bar for money owed and legal fees.

The downtown restaurant closed Friday with the Salt Lake County constable posting a notice on the door saying the locks had been changed and custody of the restaurant had been returned to the owner.

Inland Southwest Management owns and manages The Gateway. Marketing director Heather Nash said in a statement released Monday the management company had "worked closely with the owners of SkyBox Sports Grille to keep them operating at The Gateway. Unfortunately, after significant efforts, we were unable to come to an agreement on terms." The management company did not specify whether the judgment was for unpaid rent or some other obligation.

The 3rd District Court judgment, dated Oct. 19, listed $191,289 in principal owed to the management company plus treble damages of $282,262, attorneys fees and court costs.

Calls to SkyBox Properties, LLC registered agent Thomas Buxton since Friday have not been returned.

The restaurant's website, www.skyboxgateway.com, carries a notice that the Gateway location is closed. A second SkyBox location, at 651 W. Jordan Parkway in the River Park development in South Jordan, remains open. "SkyBox at River Park continues to operate, and we appreciate them as a tenant," leasing officer Jason England said Monday afternoon. Calls to that restaurant asking for information were also referred to Buxton.
