ROY — Police were investigating a shooting Thursday that left a man dead in his home and a woman injured.
The man had been arrested and booked into Weber County Jail at about 11 a.m. after a domestic violence incident and released shortly after 5 p.m., according to Roy Police Chief Greg Whinham. Officers responded to another domestic violence call at the home near 1900 West and 4400 South at 6:30 p.m.
By the time they arrived, shots had been fired and the woman had walked to a nearby convenience store with a gunshot wound to the right arm, Whinham said. She is expected to recover.
The man's fatal wounds were not self-inflicted, Whinham said. A 17-year-old girl witnessed the shooting involving the couple, who lived together but were not married.
"It looks like an individual came back to this residence, after having been given a no-contact order, to continue whatever activities he was arrested for this morning," Whinham said.
Police did not release the name of the man or the woman, but jail records indicate he was John Frederick Sharp, 37.
Sharp pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in 2006, court records show. He also had prior misdemeanor convictions for assault by a prisoner and dealing in materials harmful to a minor.
